Question
What are the installation methods for a Per Seat license of FineReader PDF?
Answer
FineReader PDF with a Per Seat license can be installed both locally and on a local area network as specified in the System Administrator's Guide.
Method 1. Installation in LAN
When deploying FineReader PDF in LAN, the system administrator can manage the licenses in the License Manager application on the License Server – reserve the licenses for the particular workstations, deactivate and reassign the licenses when the software is moved from one PC to another. For information about the license deactivation in the License Manager, please consult the article: Deactivating a Per Seat license in the License Manager.
To deploy the software in LAN, please install the License Server and License Manager and create the AdminPoint as described in the article: Deploying FineReader PDF in LAN (installation on more than one computer).
Note: The workstations where FineReader PDF will be installed must have a connection to the License Server at the moment of installing the software on the stations. After the installation and receiving a license from the License Server, access to the server is not required, and FineReader PDF will work autonomously without contacting the server.
Method 2. Local installation
FineReader PDF can also be installed locally on the workstations (standard software installation) using the program distribution kit. In this case, the installation of the License Server and Licence Manager is not required.
It is also possible to create an installation package with an automatic activation for local installation. As a result, the FineReader PDF distribution package will be created which can be installed on workstations without the need to enter a serial number. The product will be activated over the Internet automatically. The workstation on which the product is being installed must be connected to the Internet.
If the local installation of the program was performed, to deactivate a Per Seat license and reassign it to another workstation, our Support Team should be contacted with a deactivation request. Please refer to the recommendations from the article describing the deactivation process of the locally activated Per Seat licenses: How to deactivate Per Seat license if local installation was performed.
Additional information
In case the parameters of the Per Seat license have been changed, e.g. the expiration date or the number of seats, the license update should be made on the workstations that use FineReader PDF. Please consult the article describing the license update process: How to update license parameters of a FineReader PDF volume license.
If updating the license parameters of the Per Seat license is required in the License Manager, please submit a request to our Support Team for further information.
